Norid will change the technical requirements for registering DNSSEC-data on domain names on 2020-09-01. The change will affect which DNSSEC key algorithms and digest types are allowed for domain names. Already registered data will continue to work and will not be affected by the change. It is only when DNSKEY-data and DS-data are changed (in a domain create or domain update request) that the algorithm types and digest types are checked.
After the change, only the following key algorithms will be allowed:
5 RSASHA1
7 RSASHA1-NSEC3-SHA1
8 RSASHA256
10 RSASHA512
13 ECDSAP256SHA256
14 ECDSAP384SHA384
15 ED25519
16 ED448
And the following digest types:
2 SHA-256
4 SHA-384

X-NO-PERSON-IDENTIFIER | Person Identifier as received from the registry and has to be in the following form: N.PRI.XXXXXXXX
This identifier has to be requested directly at the registry https://pid.norid.no/personid/personid. The requester will receive an email from the registry with the required identifier(eight digits).
The national ID number required for the request has eleven(11) digits and cannot be used as Personal Identifier! |
Domain Extensions for organisations or companies
X-NO-ORGANIZATION-NUMBER | Organisation number as registered in the Norwegian Enhetsregisteret, which can be checked at https://www.brreg.no/en/ |
Domain Restrictions
- Organizations located in Norway and registered in Norway (Organization Number from Norway Central Register needed), restricted to 100 domainnames per owner.
- Enterprises must be registered as an approved type of organization in the Brønnøysund Register Centre (Enhetsregisteret) and have a Norwegian postal address.
- Natural persons are allowed to register since June 17, 2014 and the requirements for individuals to register a .no domain name are:
- The applicant must be 18 years or older, registered in the National Registry (Folkeregisteret) with a Norwegian national identity number (fødselsnummer) and have a Norwegian post address. Each private individual may have up to 5 domain names directly under .no. Private persons may also have up to 5 domains within any geographical category they belong to, and up to 5 domains within priv.no. More information can be found on the registry website.
- Pre-configured DNS (for DNS pre-checks us the registry ZONECHECK). Norid provides guidelines regarding the configuration.
- We have to implement checks to ensure that the data we are provided with is valid and belongs to the party making the registration request.
- This is currently being done by calling the registrant and making sure they made the registration request. Other methods that achieve the same goal are possible.
- For private person registration we do use the number in the whois.
- Also you can provide other documentation such as signed statements with ID copies, that would also be sufficient to meet our obligations.
