.iwi.nz

New WHOIS Privacy Setting for .NZ domains from March 8, 2023.

Whether contact information is displayed in the WHOIS now depends on the domain's new PRIVACY attribute. The value is default set to PRIVATE for individuals (personal data will not be displayed) and PUBLIC for organisations.

The domain attribute can be changed using the new X-NZ-PRIVACY extension for AddDomain and ModifyDomain commands. The PUBLIC / PRIVATE value will be available via the same extension in the StatusDomain command responses.
Individual Registrant Privacy Option is no longer available. Contact commands extensions (X-DISCLOSE and X-UNDISCLOSE) will still be available for backwards compatibility, but they are no longer relevant.

  • The Authcode of a domain will expire after 30 days.
  • Registration of .iwi.nz domains is not automated. The registry requires proof of Māori ethnicity before a domain becomes active. See the Restrictions tab for details.

  • A .iwi.nz domain transfer must be initiated with a so-called authorisation code (AUTH, always 16 characters), which can be obtained from the current registrar through the owner or Admin-C of the domain.
  • Please note that the AUTH changes automatically upon certain domain operations (e.g. Updates, Transfer)
  • The AUTH will expire after 30 days, wherefore you might have to request a new AUTH for already existing domain names. To initiate the generation of a new AUTH through the registry, please submit a ModifyDomain command like shown in the example at DomainModification in this article.
  • To check the last set AUTH of an already deleted or expired domain, you can do so using the command StatusDomainHistory.

Domain Restrictions

  • .iwi.nz is a restricted sub-zone of .NZ intended exclusively for Māori use. "Iwi" roughly means "people" or "nation" in Māori.
  • Registrations are not automated. The registry requires proof of Māori ethnicity before a domain is activated. Domains submitted via the API will be held pending manual review and approval by the registry.
  • Once a domain becomes active, all lifecycle operations (renewal, transfer, deletion, restore) and pricing behave identically to other .NZ sub-zones.

Supported IDN Scripts

The following IDN scripts are supported by .iwi.nz.
Provide the LANGUAGE TAG corresponding to your desired IDN within the AddDomain command as X-IDN-LANGUAGE extension.
