All domain contacts should have the same contact type as the domain category given in the extension X-HK-DOMAIN-CATEGORY.

Mandatory documents needed for registration

  • .hk
    • Documents only required upon request
  • .com.hk
    • The domain registrant must be a commercial entity registered in Hong Kong
    • A copy of the Business Registration Certificate (BR) issued by the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) of HKSARG not registered as a Branch, i.e. name of the organisation shall be that of the head office, not a branch office, or
    • A copy of the Certificate of Registration of Overseas Company issued by the Company Registry (CR) of HKSARG, or
    • Other documentary proof required for the application of .org.hk, .edu.hk, .net.hk or .gov.hk with a letter stating the reason of selecting .com.hk.
  • .org.hk
    • A copy of the tax exemption letter issued by Inland Revenue Department (IRD) that shows your organisation is a charity or not-for-profit organisation (under Section 88 or 87), or
    • A copy of the Certificate of a Society issued by the Hong Kong Police plus a copy of the Memorandum and Articles of Association showing no dividend per share to shareholders, or
    • A copy of the proof showing an exemption from Registration of a Society issued by Hong Kong Police plus a copy of the Memorandum and Articles of Association showing no dividend per share to shareholders, or
    • A copy of the Certificate of Registration for trade unions or other unions, or
    • A copy of Certificate of Owners' Corporation under Building Ordinance, or
    • A copy of Registration of a Hospital / Nursing Home (under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance), or
    • A copy of the Certificate of Registration of a Child Care Centre, or
    • Application letter issued by a Government Department of the HKSAR, or
    • Gazatte / Ordinance mentioned the establishment of your organisation together with an application letter issued by your organisation if you are a statutory body, or
    • A copy of the Memorandum and Articles of Association showing that no dividend per share to shareholders plus a copy of the Business Registration Certificate or Certificate of Incorporation, or
    • Other valid document proving the not-for-profit nature of your organisation.
  • .edu.hk
    • A copy of the Certificate of a School issued by Education Bureau of HKSARG, or
    • A copy of the Ordinance showing that your institute is established by law together with an application letter issued by your institute, or
    • A copy of the Certificate of Registration of a course issued by Education Bureau of HKSARG, or
    • A copy of the Certificate of Registration of a Child Care Centre (for Nurseries Running Educare Services or Pre-Primary Curriculum for Children between 2 to 6 years old), or
    • A copy of the Certificate of Education (for Nurseries Running Educare Services or Pre-Primary Curriculum for Children between 2 to 6 years old)
  • .net.hk
    • A copy of the PNETS (IVANS / ISP) licence issued by the Office of the Telecommunications Authority of the Government HKSAR, or
    • A copy of the PNETS Fixed Telecommunication Network Services (FTNS) / Fixed Carrier Licence issued by the Office of the Telecommunications Authority of the Government HKSAR, or
    • A copy of the Services-Based Operator ("SBO") Licence of a type of "Class 3" issued by the Office of the Telecommunications Authority of the Government HKSAR indicating that the licensee is managing network infrastructure, machines and services.
  • .gov.hk
    • Subject to the endorsement by the Office of Government Chief Information Officer
  • .idv.hk
    • A copy of HKID card or other documentary proof of residency of HKSAR. (For the registration of .個人.香港, the domain name you selected shall be your legal name)

Documents are required for the trade

  • Special documents are required for the trade of a .hk domain name. The draft can be created through our formgenerator. The generated form and the supporting documents should be compiled into one .pdf and sent to [email protected].

Documents to be provided if the Transferor is a business:

  • from the seller of the domain
    • If the Transferor is a company or business registered in Hong Kong, a copy of a Business Registration Search for the Transferor dated not more than (30) business days prior to the date of the Transfer Application Letter showing the current status of the organization, or
    • If the Transferor is a company or business registered outside Hong Kong, the original completed and signed Declaration Form DCTNR1 together with a copy of the document dated not more than (30) business days prior to the date of the Transfer Application Letter (such as company search results or business registration search results) that proves that the signatory of the Declaration Form DCTNR1 is a director / partner / sole proprietor of the company or business.
  • from the buyer of the domain
    • Any documents that can prove the legal existence of the Transferee. For example, if you wish to have a .com.hk domain name transferred to you, you must provide a copy of your Business Registration Certificate or Certificate of Registration of Overseas Company as only commercial entities registered in Hong Kong are eligible to register .com.hk domain names.
    • If the Transferee is a company or business registered in Hong Kong, a copy of the Business Registration Search results dated not more than (30) business days prior to the date of the Transfer Application Letter together with the copy of the Business Registration Certificate, if such is not provided, or
    • If the Transferee is an individual resident in Hong Kong, a copy of the Hong Kong IDcard or passport of the Transferee, or
    • If the Transferee is a company / business registered outside Hong Kong, the original completed and signed Declaration Form DCTNR1 together with a copy of a document dated not more than [30] business days prior to the date of the Transfer Application Letter (such as company search results or business registration search results) that proves that the signatory of the Declaration Form DCTNR1 is a director / partner / sole proprietor of the company or business, or
    • If the Transferee is an individual resident outside Hong Kong, the original completed and signed Declaration Form DCTNR2 together with the copy of a document that proves the legal identity of that individual (such as a passport or ID card).
    • Additional Documents as required by HKDNR
    • HKDNR may notify the Transferor and/or Transferee that they have to provide additional documents to support the application to transfer the domain name. In such circumstances, the Transferor and/or Transferee must submit such additional documents within the deadline set out in such notification.
    • HKDNR may refuse a transfer application if the correct documents are not submitted with the transfer application, or if the documents submitted are in the opinion of HKDNR deficient in any way.

Documents to be provided if the Transferor is a natural person:

  • from the seller of the domain
    • If the Transferor is an individual residing in Hong Kong, a copy of the Hong Kong ID card of the individual or the passport of the individual. If the Transferor is 11 years and older and under 18 years of age a copy of the Transferor's parents/guardians Hong Kong ID cards or passports together with a Certificate of Birth or Certificate of Guardianship, or
    • If the Transferee is an individual outside Hong Kong, the original completed and signed Declaration Form DCTNR2 together with a copy of such document that proves the legal identity of that individual (such as a passport or ID card)
  • from the buyer of the domain
    • Any documents required to be submitted under the HKDNR Rules in relation to the domain name being transferred. For example, if you wish to have a .com.hk domain name transferred to you, you must provide a copy of your Business Registration Certificate as only commercial entities registered in Hong Kong are eligible to register .com.hk domain names.
    • If the Transferee is a company or business registered in Hong Kong, a copy of the Business Registration Search results dated not more than (30) business days prior to the date of the Transfer Application Letter or the copy of the Business Registration Certificate showing that the Business Registration Fee is paid together with the copy of the Business Registration Certificate if such is not provided.
    • If the Transferee is an individual resident in Hong Kong, a copy of the Hong Kong ID card or passport of the Transferee, or
    • If the Transferee is a company/business registered outside Hong Kong, the original completed and signed Declaration Form DCTNR1 together with a copy of a document dated not more than (30) business days prior to the date of the Transfer Application Letter (such as company search results or business registration search results) that proves that the signatory of the Declaration Form DCTNR1 is a director/partner/sole proprietor of the company or business, or
    • If the Transferee is an individual resident outside Hong Kong, the original completed and signed Declaration Form DCTNR2 together with the copy of a document that proves the legal identity of that individual (such as passport or ID card).
  • Additional Documents as required by HKDNR
    • HKDNR may notify the Transferor and/or Transferee in writing that they are to provide additional documents to support the application to transfer the domain name. In such circumstances, the Transferor and/or Transferee must submit such additional documents within the deadline set out in such notification.
    • HKDNR may refuse a transfer application is the correct documents are not submitted with the transfer application, or if the documents submitted are in the opinion of HKDNR deficient in any way.

After the domain has been traded, it will be renewed for one year.

  • .hk domain transfers are possible with an authorisation code which must be requested by the domain owner from the current registrar.

TransferOUT

The transfer to another registrar requires a special authcode that can be requested directly through the HKDNR website.

Domain Restrictions

  • A company registration number and supporting documents are required (for organizations) or a faxed copy of the personal ID/passport (for individuals) is required for registration.
  • For a Second-Level '.hk' domain name, applications are accepted from organizations and individuals from both local and overseas.
  • Use of the word "government", "bank", "assurance", "insurance" or derivatives of these names require additional justification documents.
  • The change of name servers is NOT free of charge for a domain under an old contract! To change the name servers you have to accept a special parameter "ACCEPT-NSCHANGE=1". You can check the information with the "StatusDomain" command. The domain parameter X-HK-CONTRACT-VERSION (e.g. in the response of a StatusDomain) shows the needed information.

IDN Information

Traditional and Simplified Chinese is no longer supported by .hk.
