API commands

Please find in the following a set of the most commonly used standard API commands in order to register, modify, renew, and transfer a domain name.

Domain Registration

  • DNS.BE does not support admin contacts, wherefore the admin contact in RRPproxy will always be equal to the owner contact.
  • Policy notes:
    • The whois data provided for the registrant must be accurate and up-to date. It is not permitted to replace the registrant data with the data of the registrar or its reseller, unless expressly requested by the registrant. The registrant must be permitted to change registrars freely. It is not permitted to charge fees for permission or handling of a transfer-out, neither may the registrant be required to give more than a month's notice or give reasons for the transfer. Sales of expiring domain names involving owner changes without the explicit consent and the observation of the registry transfer procedures are not permitted by registry policy.

Domain Modification

In order to change the owner of a .be domain you have to a)request an authcode for the domain using the X-BE-REQUESTAUTHCODE = 1 parameter and then b)request a trade while using the previously requested authcode.

Request an authcode for the domain

The current domain holder will receive an email from the registry containing the authcode (consists of 5 groups with 3 numbers) and the date of expiry.

Change of registrant

  • You have to state the contact handle of the new owner. Please always create a new contact handle and do not use modified contact handles.
  • The trade of the domain will be processed instantly.
  • A trade is handled and charged like a new registration. The period of the domain is reset to one year.

Domain Renewal

RenewDomain is not available for .be TLDs.

As .be domains can only be registered on a monthly or yearly basis, they cannot be renewed explicitly. To renew a .be domain you have to set the domain renewal mode or default renewal mode to AUTORENEW or RENEWONCE.

Domain Transfer

When a .be domain is successfully transferred, the registration period starts from the beginning!

Request an authcode for the domain

  • The provision of name servers with the transfer request is optional but ensures that the domain will not go offline if, due to parsing issues, the current name servers cannot be applied after the transfer.

Transfer from quarantine for domains at other registrars

Deleted .be domains under the management of another registrar can be restored from quarantine and simultaneously transferred to Key-Systems ("transfer from quarantine"). The transfer from quarantine has to be confirmed by the registrant like a normal transfer. A change of registrant (trade) from quarantine is not possible.

Domain Restrictions

DNS Belgium has entered into a cooperation with FPS Economy in order to suspend fraudulent websites within one day. This approach is designed to ensure consumer confidence in .be websites.

  • The new protocol has been active since December 1,2018 and authorizes DNS Belgium, at the request of the FPS Economy, to block notably .be domain names that:

    • are used for fraudulent webshops, or

    • host phishing websites (i.e. websites which imitate other websites in order to obtain credit card details, for instance).

  • The new procedure will only be used in the event of serious crimes. The registrant has two weeks to react. After six months, the blocked domain name expires.
