GlobalBlock
Section titled “GlobalBlock”GoDaddy Registry has launched the Brand Safety Alliance (BSA), a new initiative that aims to increase collaboration between registries and create enhanced solutions for brand owners to protect their online identity.
GlobalBlock, its first new product is specifically designed to combat IP abuse.
In one simple transaction, GlobalBlock effectively blocks all available names that match the brand so no one else can register them, providing a new level of protection for brand owners.
General FAQ

| How many years can I register GlobalBlock / GlobalBlock+ for? | GlobalBlock / GlobalBlock+ can be activated for one (1), two (2), or three (3) years. |
| What is a BSA IPR? | A BSA IPR (Intellectual Property Right) is required for all orders for GlobalBlock Services. |
| How do I obtain an IPR number? | By submitting evidence to support your rights for verification. Once this is approved, an IPR will be generated to place the order. |
| Is a SMD file accepted as a verification mechanism? | Rights holders who have a valid Signed Mark Data (SMD) file issued by the Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH) will not require a BSA IPR to be issued. |
| Can I delete domains I own to become part of my block? | Once you purchase a GlobalBlock, any domain name currently registered will remain active until you either delete it or decide not to renew. Once the domain name is deleted, it will automatically be included in your GlobalBlock. Please note that this fee is non-refundable, and there is no grace period. |
| What does the annual and transfer prices represent? | Annual is the cost of the blocking product per year. Transfer is possible to all four (4) products (GlobalBlock, GlobalBlock+, DPML Bridge, and DPML Bridge+). Completing a transfer will not renew the block or update its expiry date. For the transfer fee, please refer to the CentralNic Reseller control panel. |
| Are there any additional fees we should be aware of? | No. |
| What exactly do we need to do in our CentralNic account to activate a GlobalBlock? | If you have the SMD file or IPR ID, it can be used to buy the GlobalBlock via the API or the control panel. If not, proof such as trademark documentation will need to be provided to our customer support team, so that they can submit it via the BSA portal and obtain an IPR ID on your behalf. |
| What documents need to be provided? | It depends on the “label” being registered as the GlobalBlock. For a company name, evidence of registered or unregistered trademark would suffice. The following may be provided with the application: • Certified copy of trademark registration • Screenshot of online record of Intellectual Property body database • Documentary evidence confirming (e.g., certificate of authorisation) that the applicant is an authorised representative of the registered owner of the trademark For a celebrity name, the following may be provided: • Links to websites, social media, or screenshots from websites or social media relating to a sale or advertisement • Registered trademark number, if one exists • Proof of status, e.g., IMDB, poster of movie or TV show, leaflets showing the name associated with a show, team roster, advertisement with the name on it, and actor’s registration number (US and Europe) • Political party lists • Pamphlets • Listing on a government page (provide link to page) • Other forms of proof which justify application |
| How does an unblock request work? | There is no API for unblocking individual domains; please contact our customer support team. We will then contact Brand Safety Alliance to liaise with the registry. This is a request for a specific domain, not the TLD. For normal extensions, the registry will provide a token for domain registration. For specialised extensions (.CN and .DE), Brand Safety Alliance has registered these domains to block them, so for an unblocking request, Brand Safety Alliance will initiate a domain transfer. |
| What would the public see after a domain has been unblocked, but before it has been registered? | In most cases, the domain would continue to appear as unavailable to third parties. However, the exact behaviour depends on the individual registry; there is no universal rule. The important point is that, even if a domain were to appear available during this process, it still could not be registered without the required token. Any registration attempt made without a valid token would fail. Think of the token as a unique authorisation code that enables the intended party to register the domain. |
