API Commands
Section titled “API Commands”Please find in the following a set of the most commonly used standard API commands in order to register, modify, renew, and transfer a domain name.
Domain Registration
Section titled “Domain Registration”(API Command reference » AddDomain)
- Travel Industry acknowledgement* – Submit an acknowledgement that the registration is for a registrant who is a member of the travel industry. For doing so, please use the new parameter X-TRAVEL-INDUSTRY = N | Y. This is only required for new registrations. Yes (Y) implies that the registrant is part of the travel industry.
The usage of the above described zone specific parameter is mandatory.

Section titled “Transfer Procedure”- The transfer is submitted to the registry and the losing registrar is automatically notified by them.
- The losing registrar sends an email to the owner (and optionally admin) contact, informing about the transfer; this may include options to approve and/or deny the transfer. If neither explicitly approved nor denied, the transfer will be automatically finalized after 5 days.
Transfer Notes
Section titled “Transfer Notes”- A .travel domain transfer must be initiated with a so-called authorisation code, (auth-code) which can be obtained from the current registrar through the owner/admin contact of the domain.
- Ensure that your respective domain does not have a lock-status (clientTransferProhibited and/or serverTransferProhibited). This can be seen in WHOIS.
- If the domain has a client-side transfer lock, the owner can ask the current registrar to have the lock removed.
These procedures only apply for domain transfers between registrars. For internal transfers between resellers, please consult our documentation about internal transfers/usertransfers.
Auth-Codes
Section titled “Auth-Codes”The format for auth info requires a minimum length of 8 characters and a maximum length of 32 characters.
Additionally, auth info must contain at least one of each of the following three character types:
- Alphabetic characters: a-z; A-Z
- Numeric characters: 0-9
- Special characters: !;<=$%?&@[()]*^+-,’-{.|/}:~
Domain Restore

Domain Restrictions
Section titled “Domain Restrictions”Name registration is limited to names to which the travel organization holds rights to, or uses in their business. In the following some examples:
- Incorporation (legal) Name/Partnership Name/Individual Name
- Doing Business As; Trade Name; or Business Name
- Domain Name as used in a URL
- Trade Mark
- Service Mark
- Product Name
- Club or Association Name
- Transport Vessel Name
- Competition/Event Name
- Division Name
- Subsidiary Name
- Acronyms (must be only the first letter of the primary words of the name)
Eligibility is verified by the .travel registry reviewing information provided by the applicant to determine that the applicant is primarily carrying on business or operations in the travel industry. .travel can be registered if your entity belongs to one of the following Travel Sectors:
- Airlines
- Attractions/Theme Parks
- Bed & Breakfast Houses
- Bus/Taxi/Limousine Operators
- Camp Facility Operators
- Vehicle Rental Companies/Airport Specialty Car Park Companies Computer Reservation/Travel Technology Provider
- Convention & Visitor’s Bureaus
- Cruise Lines
- Ferries
- Hotels/Resorts/Casinos
- National Tourism Offices
- Passenger Rail Lines
- Restaurants
- Tour Operators
- Travel Agents
- Travel Media
- Travel-Consumer and Market Research Organizations
Supported IDN Scripts
Section titled “Supported IDN Scripts”The following IDN scripts are supported by .travel.
Provide the LANGUAGE TAG corresponding to your desired IDN within the AddDomain command as X-IDN-LANGUAGE extension.
